Solid Ground provides a supportive learning and living environment in which families with children can thrive. We provide a variety of programs and activities to help the formerly homeless children in our housing programs grow socially, emotionally and academically.
Monique’s Story
Monique had her first baby when she was 15 years old. She dropped out of school when she had the baby, and a few months later was placed into foster care because of the unhealthy living situation at her parents house. Once she turned 18, she was basically on her own. Over the next several years, she had three more kids but never a stable place to live. Monique and her children were homeless.
Monique found out about Solid Ground while living in shelter. She was on the waiting list for 4 months before an apartment became available at East Metro Place II permanent supportive housing. She moved in on her birthday.
Monique and her advocate started meeting weekly. Her kids are receiving needed academic support through Solid Ground’s Learning & Enrichment Program. Monique has completed the Dialectical Skills Therapy program as well as tenant training and budgeting. Through Solid Ground’s Employment & Education Program, Monique started a volunteer placement. This experience helped her to find paid employment and within a few months Monique started working as teacher’s aide in a local preschool. After completing the remedial coursework necessary to move forward with her education, Monique is currently enrolled in a Childcare Development Associate program to further her skills and career in working with children.
Learning & Enrichment Program
The Learning & Enrichment Program provides after-school tutoring at East Metro Place for kids in grades K-8. The program is led by experienced educators and involves over 60 volunteers from the community to provide one-to-one tutoring in reading and math skills. This program impacts more than just a child’s academic success, it also helps to improve their children’s attitude and behavior.

Boys Club and Girls Club
These groups are gender-specific mentoring programs for boys and girls in grades 4-8. Boys and Girls Clubs gives kids the opportunity to try new activities and have new experiences. These clubs also help formerly homeless children develop strong, positive relationships with adults and other kids.
Family and Children’s Activities
Fun and educational activities are provided to both adults and children, including various holiday and cultural celebrations, trips to museums, parks, sporting events, etc.
Back-To-School
Each August, we collect school supplies for Solid Ground families, so that each child is properly prepared for the beginning of the school year and academic success.
Childcare and Early Learning
Solid Ground provides childcare during adult programming as well as a variety of early learning opportunities for our littlest ones throughout the year. We are almost always in need of volunteers to assist us in caring for children.
