What’s Happening at Solid Ground

A Holiday Success Story

Our Homework Starts with Home (HSWH) program is a collaboration of several community partners who work with school districts to move families experiencing homelessness quickly out of housing instability into stable housing within the same school district communities.

Our Homework Starts with Home/Prevention program was a life-saver for a small family this past holiday season. A hardworking, young mom participated in a Roseville Police Department holiday gift drive. This young mother of two shared her story with one of the officers that she was in a race against time to come up with back rent so she and her kids wouldn’t be left homeless.

This mom was homeless as a child and was fighting hard to change that future for her children. The court had ordered her to come up with back rent in 10 days. Even with her fulltime job, she was struggling to pull together enough money to remain housed.

The Roseville Police Department contacted Solid Ground for help. We immediately assigned an advocate to her case who worked with the police department to secure her funding. Through Solid Ground’s Homework Starts with Home/Prevention program, she was able to escape homelessness and keep her family safe.

2022 Statistics
