What’s Happening at Solid Ground

Reaching Goals

“I have even bigger goals to achieve,” Gladys remarks. “If I can see success with these smaller goals, I can’t wait to see what will happen with the goals I really want!”

Gladys and her family secured housing through Solid Ground’s HomeSafe program after a long journey with homelessness. “I’ve not had a home of my own since 2015,” Gladys recalls. In 2019, she and her three children were living out of a car before they moved in with a friend. Shortly after, it was clear that the living situation was not safe, and she moved her family into shelter. In the midst of all this turmoil, Gladys miscarried.

Gladys was referred to HomeSafe by the Coordinated Entry Program. The housing search took several months and due to Gladys’ rental history and poor credit, she was denied housing several times, but she didn’t give up. “I’ve had many challenges, and I’ve overcome them all,” Gladys exclaims.

Solid Ground’s Education and Employment Coordinator worked with Gladys to update her resume and conduct a job search. When Gladys was offered a job as a Personal Care Assistant at a local hospital, Solid Ground helped her with the mandatory CPR re-certification class as well as provided gift cards to purchase scrubs.

Solid Ground’s HomeSafe is one of few transitional housing programs for families in Washington County. It focuses on helping families build housing and economic stability essential for long-term success.
